Why Missions

Serving others is an important component in the discipleship process. Through acts of service both small and large, we become more like Jesus.

Participating in mission projects and trips:

  • Expands worldview. Enables you to see potential for learning, growth and contribution in others—and in yourself. You meet and serve alongside people that have a different background and you try new experiences.
  • Gives opportunities to practice our faith. Be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. Live out the Word of God through loving and serving others. Be an active part of God’s work in the world.
  • Builds important relationships. Serving is a reciprocal relationship. The person serving and the person being served both give and receive. The relationships that form when serving others is often more important than the actual work being done. God transforms hearts through entering into relationship with the people and communities in which we serve.
  • Requires us to rely on God and each other. Serving others is disruptive. It takes you out of your routine and often beyond your comfort zone. You are put in situations where you cannot rely solely on the things and people you know. When we are pushed out of our normal boundaries, we are given the amazing opportunity to rely on God and on those around us.

Summer Missions

Each summer the youth ministry sponsors week-long mission trip experiences for youth who have completed 7-12 grade and adult leaders.

The youth participate in selecting the sites for the experiences. The summer mission experiences are part of a long-term plan to build relationships with those we serve and partnerships with organizations who are doing impactful ministry in their communities. We seek to remain in relationship with the people and organizations throughout the year through letter writing, collections, and prayer. We also return to some communities for several years in order to make lasting relationships.

  • Our mission trips for 2020 will look different than we expected, but we are excited for what we have planned! Check our calendar on the Coming Up page for more information and to sign up for our MISSION CAMP this summer! We’re excited to see how God works in the lives of our youth and our community this summer. Options available for both high school and middle school youth (completed 7th-12th grade).

MONTHLY MISSION PROJECT

ON MISSION RIGHT IN OUR OWN BACKYARD

One Saturday per month, we partner with One Gen Away through their mobile food pantry program. The date and location are announced in our weekly newsletter.

There is no need to register. You just show up and serve. One of our youth staff will always be there to greet you and help you get plugged in. Youth can come alone, but families are welcome and encouraged to all come and serve together.
