What is Confirmation??

Confirmation is an annual program in our youth ministry that seeks to equip teenagers to choose the Christian faith for themselves. As United Methodists, we baptize infants. This action is the parent choosing Christianity for their child. Our hope is that as that child grows and is nurtured in the Christian faith that he or she can learn about Christianity and choose to commit to that life for themselves. 415 Confirmation is open  to all youth in 7-12 grade. Students do not need to be baptized in order to participate in Confirmation!
.
To best ensure the Confirmands have the information, tools, and relationships needed to become fully committed members in this community of the Body of Christ, each year the team evaluates the program seeking to learn what worked, what didn’t, and what needs to be improved. After much prayer, discernment, and discussion with church staff and clergy, the team is excited to share with you the plans for the 2017-2018 Confirmation experience.

Confirmation Classes will meet on Sunday mornings at 8:45am.

ConfirmationWhat happens in Confirmation?

Youth meet regularly during the scheduled Confirmation time to learn more about what it means to be a Christian and what it means to be a United Methodist. Lessons include Who is God, What is the Holy Spirit, What is Salvation, and the History of United Methodist Church-plus A LOT more!!
.
Confirmation begins with a required retreat, and it ends with a retreat as well.
.
During Confirmation youth are invited to attend field trips to explore other churches. These field trips include trips to Jewish temples, Catholic Churches, Shorter AME, and our sister church, 61st Avenue.
.
Confirmation students make a covenant to regularly be in the Word and to pray daily. Youth are also required to participate in two service hours and meet one-on-one with a Youth Staff or Clergy member to discuss what they have learned.

Confirmation Leaders & Faith Friends

Confirmation is lead by a wonderful group of committed teachers. This team of volunteers meets regularly to plan Confirmation each year. This group of people also rotates teaching the lessons each week as well as chaperoning and participating in the field trips and retreats.
.
Each Confirmation student has a Faith Friend to encourage them through the process. This person is a non-family member who can support the youth through this time. Faith Friends can be members of FFUMC or not, but these individuals must be actively pursuing Jesus Christ.
